Copperhead on Cheat Lake
She ribbons through the headwaters
business like in her briskness
pausing only to lock eyes with a paddleboarder
who gets a bit close for her comfort
then, like a driver stuck at a stop sign
and tired of waiting for someone to make a move, she
turns and ribbons away
she has important matters to atten to-
rocks and rodents- sundown
waits for no reptile.
